"Visionaries Had Toys in the 1960s?" was the joking comment my friend Chad had made after I sent him a picture of the latest and greatest thing to come aboard The Cosmic Ark....Tonka's Super Naturals Eagle Eye.
I got this figure after I had received a Pay Pal refund on a another item that arrived to the Ark in a broken state(said item I was allowed to keep and has been sent to a friend of mine who is in the process of repairing it for me).
So I decided with my extra funds to get something else but I wanted it to meet certain qualifications...
1) It had to be $20 or under in cost
2) I wanted it to be something unique or new to my collection
3) It had to be from either the 70s or 80s
Well after checking my normal spots I go to for action figures online and found nothing that met the 3 points it had to be under I decided to take a look somewhere I never go to and that was Ebay.
After some random searches there I finally found what I was looking for with Eagle Eye and the best part too was it was from a private collection and a seller was from my home state so "bonus points" there!
These figures use Holograms much like Hasbro's Visionaries did but in a different more unique way buy using double-channeled ones to created a cool and fun effect of having two faces, one of a human and one of a animal depending on the angle you look at them(which proved for me to be painful to get really good pictures of).
Also they included shields with Holograms as well as Glow-In-The-Dark weapons which is always a nice.
To give everyone a size comparison on how big these are below is a image of Eagle Eye next to my Rambo and Blackstarr action figures.....
So really nice in scale and these stand a bit taller than your standard vintage Masters of the Universe action figures and much taller than G.I. Joe or Star Wars figures.
After getting Eagle Eye here am totally hooked on these and I want more including the rather pricey "Tomb of Doom" playset so it looks like I have a new thing I want collect and hunt for.

I remember these guys! I had Lionheart, but I always wanted Burnheart and Snakebite. In some ways I still wish I had my Lionheart.
ReplyDeleteThere great and I so want more of these now.
DeleteI so remember these! I remember holographic stuff was really big and having a moment when these came out. I think my brother had some. I've seen a lot of these throughout ebay from time to time, so I am sure you will be able to catch up on building a cool collection.
ReplyDeleteYeah Holograms and toys seemed to have point when they met up in the 80s Miss M and we were all better for it. : )
DeleteTell me about it! Holograms make everything instantly better. Along with glow in the dark plastic and translucent plastic with glitter in it. lol
DeleteSo true Miss M so true.
DeleteThese guys remind of those Knight figures with holograms. Did they come out at the same time??
ReplyDeletePretty close if not around the same time as the Visionaries Kal.
